Our first full day in the Bahama's, we took some time to explore the island. First stop was to buy some rum, followed by ice cream and then some groceries. After 3 months of cruising down the US east coast it was nice to be in a different culture.
Although it wasn't always free from US influence. The Berry Island's were a big deal back in the 1970's - 80's. It's were american celebrities, including the Rat Pack would come to party. I don't have all the details, but I guess the drug cartel became involved and the island resort was 'shut down.' There are ruins of old mansions, an overgrown golf course with the clubhouse falling apart.
We found some beautiful Bahamian houses
We did not run into Da Bonner
They take their shelters serious here, the addition to the church was basically a concrete bunker.
Sarah next to the big boys, Griffin and Sea Angel at the marina
Our slip was right next to this old pool bar. Now just a bar since the pool has been drained.
Allyson fueling up on ice cream for our trek back to the boat.
Amazingly this one ice cream cone fueled her for another 2 mile walk to the white sand beach, along with some snorkeling. We were on the beach when a cold front came through and felt the temperature drop 10 degrees instantly, and then immediately got drenched. Luckily we didn't have the camera on us at the time.
