Last minute thoughts and preparations.

I am really going to miss exploring Boston by dinghy.
It forces you to really look around...
...slow down...
...and appreciate what's around you...
...without (much) distraction.

Last West Marine visit ($160 for what Dan holds...grrr).
Last minute review.
Last minute packing. It goes on and on.

The final hole has been drilled and filled in Sarah's transom for the windvane and we are casting later today for the Boston Islands for the night then hopefully P-Town on Saturday. The past week has been very exciting. The weight of some major projects finally off our shoulders. We have spent our time with friends and family while provisioning. Mind you, our first stops are P-Town-Nantucket-Martha's Vineyard,  so our provisioning is not that of a blue water voyage.

We have been asked what we will miss the most.

Dan reports (in this order)
-friends and family
-his bicycle
-Ace Hardware
-figs pizza
-Style Cafe breakfast sandwiches

Allyson reports
-an unlimited water supply. (No, we do not have a salt water faucet or water purifier).
-friends and family
-exploring Boston
-New England in the fall

I don't know what that says about our priorities. But here we go!

Happy 4th of July!

Boston moved it's firework display to the 3rd due to Hurricane Arthur. Dan and I took our dingy (to be referred to as Tater Tot from here on out) up the Charles River to meet with some friends. Total of 7 boats held secure by one anchor. This was a first for me. There is no better way to experience the fireworks display. Up close and personal. We got caught on our way home in a spectacular thunderstorm. There was a mad dash by a hundred or so boats to get through the Charles River locks. Everyone was stone sober... I'm sure. Sometimes having a 7 foot dingy has its benefits. We were able to snake our way to the front of the mayhem without getting run over. We are going to miss this city and all the adventure it offers.

Charlestown in pieces

Since bringing Sarah to Boston 3 years ago she has been docked at Constitution Marina in Charlestown. It has a very good liveaboard community which is supported by the owners of the marina who spent a number of years living on their boats as well. Here are some shots from around Charlestown in 2012.

I took these pictures with my grandma's old film camera, a Canon Canonet 28, she bought back in the 1970's. The camera takes great low light pictures especially sunsets.

After getting some of these older pictures developed, we decided to bring the camera for the trip south.  Almost the entire roll of film was split frame or double exposure.  User error for sure, although it gives the pictures a unique look.
